More information about this butterfly on these sites:
During 2022 we monitored the presence of butterflies on the land of Forests From Farms. We continued this project since then.

Our observations regarding the Map:

  • In 2022 we saw the Map in spring, on the 30th of April  for the very first time feeding on flowers.
  • In 2023 we didn't take any photograph of the Map.
  • In 2024 we saw the Map for the very first time in July and in the rest of the summer until September. The Map butterfly exhibits seasonal dimorphism, having two forms, levana and prorsa that represent the spring and summer broods. Levana individuals are primarily orange in colour, giving them the appearance of a small fritillary, whereas prorsa individuals look more like a small White Admiral.
  • In 2024 we changed our policy with regard to mowing our paths in the field. We mowed as little as possible.
  • In 2025 the Map was more present, already from early spring until the end of June. We saw it from the 6th of April onwards almost always  at the same place in our field. On the 10th of June we saw a caterpillar eating away on a nettle leave. In the end of June it appeared twice. One evening in a tree. The other day on the wall of our house. Both days it was quite hot  so they were definitively hiding from the heat.
