To mark UNESCO’s International Day for #Biodiversity, here is a brief glimpse of our Forests From Farms project, filmed today. What was still an old farm in the year 2000 has now become a small woodland where everything lives and grows.

This is the result of 20 years of no human intervention apart from planting trees.

For a list of the diversity of animal species, please visit our page about biodiversity on this website

We have recorded 74 bird species since 2002 and, since this spring alone, 25 species of butterfly.

We encourage people to do the same, whatever the size of your land. Every little bit helps.

Of course, stopping the consumption of animal products also contributes to biodiversity. But well, that’s another story...

VIDEO: Walking in the snow on the Forests From Farms property

Just to clarify: when we moved into this old farmhouse, there were only fields and a few trees. Now, 23 years later, it has become a small forest, a little paradise rich in biodiversity, flora, and fauna. And we are obviously very attached to it.

Our Forests From Farms project aims to encourage others to do the same. Give your garden or land, that you don't use, back to nature and let the trees grow.

In the video, I speak in my native language, Dutch. The words are not important. I was moved by the beauty of the snow today. Of course, this snow is not so much fun for the animals.

Snow is quite rare in the Vendée. If I remember correctly, this is the third time in 23 years that we have had as much snow as we had last night. About 4 inches. And what was remarkable was that there were almost no cars on the road next to our property. The silence was soothing. The Vendée is sleeping... under the snow.
